NOPD investigating two car thefts at S. Carrollton Ave. gas station

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans Police are investigating two vehicle thefts that occurred at a gas station in the 3400 block of South Carrollton Avenue.

NOPD says the first incident happened on January 4 just before 1 a.m.

The victim told police that he left his silver 2012 Infinity QX56 running while he walked into the gas station. While inside, a blue 2019 Kia Soul with the license plate N543133 pulled up next to the vehicle. The driver of the Kia got out, entered the Infinity and drove away with the Kia following.

According to investigators, the Kia was reported stolen during a robbery in the 4500 block of Walmsley Avenue.

The Infinity was later recovered in the 1000 block of North Gayoso Street.

Police say the second theft occurred on January 6 around 6:30 a.m.

According to the victim, he left his white 2019 Chrysler 300 with the license plate number 293DOW running as he walked into the gas station. Police say a red GMC pickup truck with an extended cab and a silver bumper was seen in the parking lot before the victim arrived. While the victim was inside of the gas station, a suspect exited the truck armed with a gun and entered the Chrysler. The suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle along with the truck.

NOPD has not confirmed if the two incidents are connected.
