BAYOU ST. JOHN (WVUE) - A woman was carjacked at gunpoint in Bayou St. John, and left stranded on the side of the road in the middle of the night.
The driver said she was just taking her normal route to work and she never thought she’d be the victim of a carjacking.
“I didn’t have time to think. I was just like, ‘This is it. They’re going to shoot me’,” said the victim, who didn’t want to be identified.
She said around 1 a.m., at the corner of Moss St. and Grand Route Saint John, three armed suspects exited a red SUV, approached her vehicle, and demanded her belongings and car keys.
“They were coming really fast behind me, so I just figured they had somewhere to be. So I stopped and I let them go in front of me, and they cut me off,” she said. “I like, put my hands up, I closed my eyes. I was like please please don’t shoot me.”
The suspects made off with her car which is described as a white 2020 Hyundai Kona with Michigan license plate EED5691.
“I was out of the car, but I just stood on the sidewalk like, did that just happen?”
She said she ran to the nearest gas station to call police since her cell phone was left in her vehicle.
“I think I’m still processing... like you see this happen all the time, and you never think it’s going to happen to you,” she said. “I just can’t stop seeing the guns pointed at my face.”
The victim says she’s happy to be alive.
The New Orleans Police Department is asking for any information to call NOPD First District detectives at 504-658-6010 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
