14-year-old recovered from Lake Pontchartrain

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department said Tuesday they have recovered the body of a teen in Lake Pontchartrain.

The 14-year-old swimmer reportedly went underwater near Stars and Stripes Boulevard Friday afternoon, Jan. 15.

NOPD Chief Shaun Ferguson said the boy, identified as Charles Cooper, was recovered with the assistance of the Cajun Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also assisted in the search.

His mother said he and his friends jumped in the water to try and retrieve a shoe that fell in.
