Man dead, infant shot in vehicle in Algiers

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man is dead and an infant was injured in a shooting in Algiers.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded to a shooting at the intersection of Kabel Drive and General DeGaulle Drive on Wed., Jan. 27.

Police say a man was found shot to death in a vehicle.

That man has been identified by his son as Anthony Davis, 46.

“They pretty much saying the altercation, or whatever must have happened, he was trying to protect the baby, so he was in the mix or whatever just happened,” Anthony Davis Jr. said. “Could be wrong, could be true.”

An infant female was taken from the scene in a private vehicle to the hospital. Officials say the baby suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound to the leg.

“There was two women jumping out of it [the car], one had a baby, they were screaming and they took off running away from me towards General Myer and then someone came from the other side of the parking lot screaming, ‘did someone shoot my baby?’” one witness said.

Later, NOPD reported a man found shot in the abdomen in the 1600 block of Southlawn Boulevard.

Investigators were able to determine that both scenes are connected.

Both shootings remain under investigation.

“Right now, I’m just kind of being strong because only me and him was the laughter the family and, you know, the positive energy,” Davis Jr. said. “It’s going to be a big, big role now, of making sure everybody in the family keeps smiling and making sure not everybody is taking it too bad.”
