NEW ORLEANS (WVUE)- After only one season in the Purple and Gold, TJ Finley’s time in Baton Rouge is over with. He officially entered the NCAA transfer portal on Thursday morning. Finley logged five starts for LSU in 2020. The Ponchatoula native led the Tigers to victories against South Carolina and Arkansas. But a crowded quarterback room has him moving on from Tiger town.

“I’ve been battling with this decision for a while now. A well though out process by myself and my family. At the end of the day, I wanted to do what’s best for me personally, and do what’s best for my family as well. I believe me playing this year would be best for me. Going into a system that I would develop within the next two years to be draft eligible, and possibly go to the draft my third year. I just felt like it was time. I loved LSU, and I actually cried making this decision plenty of times. But it’s worth it. I feel like the benefits of this decision will outweigh the negatives,” said TJ Finley.

The plan now for Finley is to spend some time here in his hometown of Ponchatoula. Then start sorting through the offers, and make a move which should come in the next couple of weeks.

“I don’t think we can visit until June 1st. I plan on making my decision before then. Because I want to get a summer session 1. But as far as schools, just know it’s a lot of schools that believe in me.They seen what I did in the SEC. The most powerful conference in the country. {55:36-43} Some of them are SEC. Some of them are ACC, Big 10, Big 12, things of that nature. It’s just a matter of what I want,” said Finley.

Finley early enrolled at LSU in the spring of 2020.
