Reporter

Baton Rouge, La.

Kiran Chawla is WAFB’s Lead Investigative Reporter. She’s won numerous awards for her investigations including Edward R. Murrows, Emmys, Associated Press and Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. In 2018, she was named Louisiana’s Newsperson of the Year by the Associated Press.

Kiran graduated from Loyola University New Orleans majoring in Mass Communication with a minor in Criminal Justice. She was born in Jackson, MS and moved to Louisiana at a young age and has called La home ever since.

Kiran got into television when she was in high school saying she truly enjoys making a difference in the community be it through her investigations or getting someone back in their flooded home.

She’s been on the front lines of covering numerous hurricanes including Katrina, the BP oil spill, the protests in BR after Alton Sterling’s death, the ambush on law enforcement and the historic 2016 flood in Baton Rouge just to name a few.

Kiran has worked in news in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Jackson, MS.

In her spare time, you will most likely find a paintbrush in her hands or concocting a new recipe in her kitchen. She loves traveling, walking for miles to ensure she hits her 10,000 steps daily and reading a good book (a real book, not a Kindle).
