Tulane held a 4-1 advantage over East Carolina in the late innings, but the Pirates scored five in the eighth, handing the Wave a 6-5 loss. Grant Witherspoon hit two two-run home runs. Witherspoon homered to center field in the third inning and to right field in the seventh, giving the eighth-seeded Green Wave (25-32) a 4-1 lead.
