A worker at a marine repair business drowned Wednesday after an accident on the Harvey Canal.
Deputies responded around 3:00 Wednesday afternoon to Total Marine Service of Jefferson on Destrehan Avenue in Harvey.
"First responding officers met with workers at a dry dock marine repair business on the Harvey Canal who reported a co-worker, who was working along the waters edge between a barge and a small tow boat jumped into the water to retrieve the tow boat that drifted away from where he was working," reads a news release from JPSO. "The witness told police he threw a life preserver to the worker in the water, however, he was unable to retrieve it. After going under, he never resurfaced."
JPSO identified the victim as 47-year-old Randy Harris of Avondale. His body was pulled from the water early Wednesday evening.
