Metairie, La. - The mood among Saints fans at mini-camp reflects the turmoil the team has seen since the end of the season.

Under the midday sun, the fans wish for a breeze and a Brees.

"The crowd is very subdued this year," said Saints fan Claudette Leblanc, who suspects it is due in large part to the absence of quarterback Drew Brees.

A sentiment echoed by fan Al Hamilton who says, "He should have been here. We shouldn't even be going through these little pitty-pat games with Drew Brees. Not with Mr. Brees!Sign the man, get him in camp and let's move on!"

Fans expressed their frustration with the slow process of signing the team's star quarterback and the bounty scandal with signs and their attire.

Nevertheless, they crowded the bleachers to watch the first public practice, happy to soak in their off-season football fix under the summer sun.

Public mini-camp practices at the Saints training facility will continue Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Thursday at 10:15 a.m.
