Dead woman found in car in N.O. East

Police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found inside her vehicle.

She was discovered shortly before 7:00 Wednesday evening in the Wind Run Apartments complex in the 12000 block of the North I-10 Service Road.

Police say the 33-year-old woman was found in a white Chevrolet Colorado pickup with several gunshot wounds to her body.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

NOPD had issued a statement calling the death a homicide, but a police spokesperson now tells FOX 8 that it has been re-categorized as an "unclassified death" -- at this point, it is unclear why.

The victim's identity is withheld, pending notification of her family.
