New Orleans, La. - New hurricane recovery grants from FEMA will mean repairs for the Port of New Orleans, Sewerage and Water Board and LSU Health Sciences Center.

Senator Mary Landrieu announced the award of nearly $9.7 million in new grant money.

$3.7 million will go to the Sewerage and Water Board to be used to prevent the kind of devastation created by Katrina's floodwaters. Projects include raising pumps to avoid flood damage.

The Port of New Orleans plans to use $3 million dollars to repair and improve the Governor Nicholls and Esplanade wharves.

Another $2.98 million will be used to restore disaster damaged facilities at the LSU Health Sciences Center's school of medicine.
