New Orleans, La.- There are many great Fourth of July traditions, but losing a pet is not one of them.

The Louisiana SPCA says more pets go missing on the Fourth of July than any other holiday.

Part of the problem is fireworks, which can spook an animal or cause it to run and hide.

Many dogs or cats also get out and run off while families entertain friends at home.

The Louisiana SPCA offers up some suggestions to keep your pet safe this holiday.

-Keep your dogs or cats inside

-Close windows and doors

-Turn on a radio, fan or air conditioning to muffle the sound of fireworks

-Do not take pets to fireworks displays
