Retired New Orleans magistrate found dead from self-inflicted gunshot wound

New Orleans, La. - A prominent New Orleans attorney and retired magistrate is dead.

The Orleans Parish coroner tells FOX 8 Joe Giarrusso Junior died at his Algiers home due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police were called to the 3500 block of Inwood Avenue in the Tall Timbers subdivision Wednesday morning.

Giarusso, 60, is a former Orleans Assistant DA and former Assistant US Attorney.

He was the husband of Civil District Court Judge Robin Giarusso and he was the son of the city's former police chief and city councilman.
