Guard unit prepares to deploy

LAPLACE, La. (AP) - Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard's 1084th Transportation Company will participate in ceremonies on Sunday as they prepare for a 1-year deployment to Afghanistan.
The battalion, with detachments in Reserve and Slidell, will send 155 soldiers to the war zone to provide convoy escort and transportation for allied forces.
The 1084th will train at Fort Hood, Texas, before deploying overseas.
Sunday's send-off ceremonies will be at 1:15 p.m. at the St. John Center on U.S. Highway 51 in LaPlace.
