Slidell, La. - A 29-year-old Slidell man is behind bars for severely beating his father after an argument, according to a spokesman with the Slidell Police Department.

Police say Sunday evening, investigators were called to a local hospital in order to speak to an elderly victim who had been severely beaten.

The victim, whose name is not being released, had suffered massive facial injuries. The injuries were so severe that the victim was relocated to ICU and is awaiting surgery.

When investigators asked the victim how he obtained his injuries, he told police his son had punched him in the face, but couldn't fully remember the entire sequence of events.

Detectives spoke with the son, Bradford Dearing, who said he and his father got into an altercation, and in self-defense, punched his father once in the face.

Due to the severity of the victim's injuries, it was apparent that more than just a simple punch had occurred. A warrant was issued for Second Degree Battery and Cruelty to the Infirm.

Dearing was placed under arrest late yesterday afternoon, and is waiting to be booked at the St. Tammany Parish Jail where a bond will be set.

An investigation into prior alleged abuse to the victim is ongoing, and as the investigation continues, more charges may follow.
