Car accident injures three children in Bush

New Orleans -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L are investigating a four-vehicle accident that left three children and three adults injured. The accident occurred Saturday just before 3:00 p.m. on Hwy 21 near the intersection of Hwy 40 in Bush.

According to a Troop L spokesperson, an 18 wheeler, driven by 61-year-old Earl Johnson of Meraux, was traveling on Hwy 21 when it approached three stopped vehicles, waiting for a vehicle to turn. Johnson failed to stop in time and the rig collided with a Nissan SUV which collided with a Honda SUV. The rig also struck a Hyundai SUV. Three children were in the backseat of the Nissan. Two of the children, a 19-month-old and a two-year-old were transported to University Hospital where they are listed in serious condition. The third child, an eight-year-old female, was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Nissan, Tarrah Willis, 26, and her passenger Bruce Willis, 27, both of Bogalusa, only sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Honda, 36-year-old Trenice Harry, of Bogalusa also received minor injuries and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa. The driver of the Hyundai, 32-year-old Kylandis Jackson, of Bogalusa, was uninjured.

Every person involved in the accident was wearing their seat belts. The children were also properly restrained. Johnson submitted to a breath alcohol test, which showed no detectable signs of alcohol in his system. He was cited for having an expired license plate and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
