Bayou Corne, La. - Emergency managers in Assumption Parish say a sinkhole near Bayou Corne is deeper than they thought.
They dropped a weight in the sinkhole and discovered it fell the entire length of the weight's cord, which was 750 feet.
Similar tests before that involved a cord that was only 500 feet long.
Emergency managers have not said yet whether they plan to perform the test again with a cord that's longer than 750 feet.
The sinkhole formed last year over a salt cavern owned by Texas Brine Co.
The company is in the process of negotiating buyouts with property owners in the area.
