Head-on crash kills 21-year-old man

New Orleans -- Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop C are investigating a two-car accident that left a 21-year-old man dead. The accident occurred Sunday, just after 3:00 p.m. on Highway 182 in Raceland. The victim has been identified as Andrew Carter of Thibodaux.

Police say that Alfred Carter IV was driving a car west on Hwy 182 when, for unknown reasons, his car veered to the left and hit another car head-on. Alfred Carter was wearing his seat belt and received serious injuries. His passenger, Andrew Carter, was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle, Loraine Bourgeois, 65, of Metairie was also wearing her seat belt and received serious injuries. Bourgeois and Alfred Carter were transferred to Thibodaux Regional Hospital.

Troopers do not believe that alcohol is a factor in the crash, but blood samples were taken from both drivers. The samples will be tested at the State Police Crime Lab. The crash remains under investigation.
