Small plane crashes northeast of Hammond
New Orleans -- A small plane crashed about six miles northeast of Hammond. The crash occurred Tuesday morning around 10 a.m. in a field just off of August Lane in Folsom.
According to a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's spokesperson, the two people on board, identified as 60-year-old Nicholas Burtchaell and Otis D. Briggs, walked away from the crash. The crash is a result of engine failure in a single-engine piper commander. The pilot was forced to conduct an emergency landing.
Coast Guard responded to the crash site to check on the people involved. The Husser Fire Department also responded to the scene. It is unsure where the plane took off from or where it's destination was.
