SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested a Texas man on dog fighting charges.

The St. Tammany Parish Animal Control received an anonymous complaint of possible animal cruelty. Deputies went to a home at 37314 Powell Road in Slidell.

At the residence, deputies found 15 pit bull dogs. All appeared to be malnourished and exhibited wounds consistent with dogs that had been used for fighting.

The dogs were seized by Animal Control and Ramel Varrick Johnson of Killeen Texas was charged with 15 counts of dogfighting, training and possession of dogs for fighting.

Police say it is believed that Johnson, while he gave the Texas address as his residence, has actually been living at the Powell Road address where the dogs were found.

He was and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail. No bond has been set.
