VIOLET, LA (WVUE) - A Violet man was arrested Monday after police say he broke into a home, shot a man in the leg and held him hostage for two hours.

Brandon Robinson, 31, was booked with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, home invasion, false imprisonment and illegal discharge of a weapon, according to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann.

The incident began just after 6 p.m. in the 2500 block of Edgar Drive.

A witness told sheriff's detectives that Robinson and the victim had argued in front of an apartment building, and that Robinson had pulled a gun and forced the victim into one of the units.

After the victim was shot, Robinson refused to come out when sheriff's deputies were called to the scene.

At about 8 p.m., Robinson surrendered and the victim was taken to University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Pohlmann said. Robinson, whose criminal history includes prior arrests on drugs and weapons charges, was booked into St. Bernard Parish Prison

Sheriff's detectives are continuing the investigation into what led to the shooting.
