The woman whom police said was killed by her boyfriend died of blunt-force trauma, according to the Jefferson Parish coroner.

Police said the suspect, 43-year-old Pedro Alberto Monterosso-Navas, of Honduras, faces second-degree murder in the death of 24-year-old Heidy Monroy. Monterosso-Navas was arrested Monday in a trailer park in Katy, Texas, after he fled there with the couple's three children. The children, ages 12, 4 and 2, were unharmed and turned over to Texas authorities.

Two other children were left behind at the couple's Metairie apartment. Authorities found Monroy's body early Sunday morning after the children knocked on a neighbor's door saying that their mother needed help. They have since been placed with the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services.

Investigators learned of Monterosso-Navas' whereabouts after one of the kidnapped children spoke by phone to a female friend in Katy. The mother of the friend then called 911.

A neighbor said Monterosso-Navas and Monroy were at his house Saturday night and were arguing. He said Monroy had said she was afraid to go back to the apartment with Monterosso-Navas.
