Police say that a would-be robber injured himself while attempting to flee over a fence in New Orleans East.

Kevin Jones, 56, was arrested on Wednesday evening after allegedly attempting to steal from a Super 8 Motel. Officers say the incident happened just before 3 p.m. in the 6300 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

A 37-year-old hotel manager tells police that he saw Jones attempting to break into a shed in the rear of the building. Police say he was trying to break in with a screwdriver.

Officers state that Jones, startled by the manager, attempted to flee the scene over a nearby fence. He injured himself during the fall and police were called.

Police arrived to find Jones with multiple injuries. He was apprehended without incident and transported to the hospital. Jones was charged with attempted simple burglary and possession of stolen property.

The manager of the hotel tells police the shed was burglarized the day before. Jones was allegedly wearing shoes taken in the previous burglary, police say.
