Unrestrained driver ejected from car in fatal crash

ST. HELENA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A 29-year-old driver died after driving off the highway early Saturday morning.

According to State Police, Cody J. Damico of Zachary, La. was driving east on La. 37 near mile marker 41 when, for unknown reasons, he veered left and crossed the center lane. His car then struck a utility pole, overturned and came to a rest in a ditch according to police.

Damico was ejected from his vehicle and died on the scene.

State police say Damico was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Impairment is not known at this time as toxicological tests are pending.
