The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office confirms that the man shown punching 17-year-old Brady Becker repeatedly in the head in a Lakeside Mall parking garage on Feb. 13 was a plainclothes officer who had been working the parade route.
Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato said the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. and involved an altercation between a group of teens and deputies. He said words were exchanged, and a fight ensued. The other individuals scattered, but Becker was arrested.
Becker sustained an eye injury. Fortunato said he was treated at the hospital and then booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Facility with possession of alcohol by a minor, resisting arrest, battery on a police officer and inciting to riot.
"The matter has been brought to our attention," Fortunato said. "We encouraged the family to file a complaint with internal affairs. It will be investigated fully."
According to the St. Charles Catholic High School web site, Becker is a member of both the football and baseball teams and is set to graduate in 2016.
