Bride-to-be struck, killed by vehicle in parking lot
MARRERO, LA (WVUE) - A couple set to be married on Tuesday will never get the chance.
A single wreath off of Barataria Blvd. marks the scene of the accident. David Jeblonski and his wife-to-be, Tabatha Thibodeaux, were walking through a parking lot in Marrero when tragedy struck.
The incident occurred Saturday just after noon on Highway 45 near Bourgeois Lane.
A SUV ran off of the roadway before entering a private parking lot. The SUV struck Jeblonski and Thibodeaux. The couple was transported to LSU interim where Jeblonski was treated for moderate injuries. Thibodeaux, a mother of three, was pronounced dead.
"It was that genuine love. I was finally happy with somebody - and just as fast, it got taken," said Jeblonski.
He was two days from marrying the love of his life when the accident occurred. The couple was taking a spontaneous trip to her mother's house. Hand-in-hand they walked through the parking lot when life changed in an instant.
"The next thing I know, I see this big white truck just coming for us," said Jeblonski. "I tried to grab her, but by the time I put my hands on her to move her, I got struck."
"I didn't see her anywhere around me and I looked at the vehicle," he recalled. "That's when I looked underneath and saw her underneath the tire."
All that's left for Jeblonski are memories, a wedding band around his neck, her hair-tie around his wrist and countless "what ifs."
For a grieving mother, the memories linger.
"She was a fun girl. [She was] loving and cared about everyone else," said April Ditta. "She would do anything to help anybody. She was everything. She was just a joy to have for the 24 years."
Louisiana State Police have not said what caused the 52-year-old driver of the SUV to leave the road. Toxicology results are pending.
The family of Thibodeaux has set up a GoFundMe page. The page states "we have no insurance to give her a proper burial." The page can be viewed here: http://www.gofundme.com/o6vrs0
Thibodeaux leaves behind three children, ages 5, 18-months and 2-months.
