(WVUE) - Coming off his healthiest, most productive season in New Orleans, guard Eric Gordon has chosen to opt in to the final year of his contract with the Pelicans.
Basketball Insiders writer Eric Pincus tweeted out Gordon's decision Tuesday evening and shortly thereafter, Gordon tweeted out "#TakeFlight", in reference to the Pelicans' marketing slogan.
Gordon contributed to New Orleans' first playoff appearance in five seasons and scored 20+ points twice in their series against the eventual-champion Warriors. The Indiana native's season was shortened by a separated shoulder suffered in November but he elected not to have surgery and returned to end up playing in 61 regular season games, averaging 13.4 points on 41.1% field goal shooting and 44.8% 3-point shooting.
According to sports contract website Spotrac.com, Gordon will be count $15.5 million against the salary cap for the 2015-16 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer.
