ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - State troopers say a truck hit and killed a man who was trying to walk across I-10 in Slidell, after mechanical problems forced him to stop his vehicle.
The accident happened just after 9:00 p.m. Sunday on I-10 near Oak Harbor Boulevard.
Investigators say 46-year-old Ricky Nunez of Pearl River was driving east on I-10, when he pulled to the right shoulder and stopped his vehicle. Troopers say when Nunez got out and tried to walk across the interstate, the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, 25-year-old David Wolfe of Slidell, hit him.
Investigators say Wolfe tried to stop, but couldn't manage to avoid hitting Nunez. After Wolfe struck Nunez, troopers say a 2005 Land Rover, driven by 52-year-old Dreux Seghers of Ocean Springs, MS, ran into the Silverado.
State Police say both Wolfe and Seghers submitted breath alcohol samples with no trace levels of alcohol present.
At this point, they are not facing charges. Troopers say they are still investigating the case.
State Police want to remind pedestrians of the dangers of walking along the interstate system.
