You'll see improvements to five local cemeteries.

According to our partners at New Orleans CityBusiness, Service Corporation International will spend $7.2 million to upgrade Metairie Cemetery and Lake Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Metairie, Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Gentilly, St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery in the St. Claude neighborhood and St. Bernard Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Chalmette.

Improvement projects include landscape and masonry work, expansion of burial space and general facility renovations.

"These are improvements that have been long overdue," said Service Corporation International New Orleans Market Director Jake Williams. "Much of it involves adding new space for cremation internment, which has become much more popular among the baby boom generation."

The largest project will create a new mausoleum complex and courtyard at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
