ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A Slidell man is in jail after leading St. Tammany Parish sheriff's deputies on a high speed pursuit Thursday morning.

A deputy near Interstate 12 and Highway 11 was alerted about a stolen red Honda Civic in the area. A short time later, he noticed the vehicle traveling westbound on I-12 near the Highway 434 exit.

The officer tried to pull the car over, but the driver sped away, reaching speeds of 85 miles per hour.

Deputies identified the driver as 26-year-old Christopher Beals.

Additional patrol vehicles caught up with Beals' car and surrounded him, forcing him to stop near the Pinnacle exit.

Beals was taken into custody without incident. Someone reported the car he was driving stolen from Mandeville on Wednesday.

Beals has been booked with possession of stolen things, possession of a legend drug without a prescription and aggravated flight from an officer.
