Woman accused in Lakeview jewelry theft arrested in St. Tammany

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A woman accused in the theft of jewelry from a Lakeview home earlier this summer was arrested Thursday in St. Tammany Parish, according to New Orleans police. It was not immediately clear if she remained in custody or had posted bond.

Tricia Sauvinet Smith, who also goes by Tricia Caminita, is accused of stealing a wedding ring set worth more than $16,000 from the home of an acquaintance.

The incident was reported on June 10 in the 300 block of 22nd Street.

Police said in early May, the victim took off her wedding rings while inside her home and put them in a metal container in her bathroom. When she went to get them, she discovered they were missing.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the victim's friend, Sauvinet, stole the rings and pawned them, according to an NOPD news release. Detectives then obtained a warrant for her arrest.

Third District Detectives are investigating the incident and can be contacted at (504) 658-6030.
