Orleans Sheriff invites community to Thanksgiving dinner
A 41-year tradition by the Orleans Sheriff's Office lives on with an invitation to a Thanksgiving dinner open to everyone.
Sheriff Marlin Gusman says this year's celebration will be held Thursday, November 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Halls 1 and 2.
Gusman says volunteers and sponsors help keep the tradition alive.
Musical performers scheduled to appear include Irma Thomas, Irvin Mayfield, Leo Nocentelli, James Andrews, Earl Smith, Chucky C., Bobby J., and Michael Ward.
Spontaneous dancing by diners, young and old, is encouraged.
Last year more than 400 people volunteered for the party.
OPSO says volunteers can pre-register online at www.opso.us.
Free parking is available in Lot F, located across from the site of the dinner. Citizens and volunteers who need transportation to the event can call the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office at (504) 202-9215.
