Man arrested in Houma after short car chase

HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - Houma police arrested a man after a confrontation with a homeowner and subsequent chase.

On November 24 shortly after 6 a.m. police received a call about a possible shooting near Roselawn and Payne Street.

Police learned that the victim of the shooting currently was chasing the suspect through the Eastside of Houma.

Authorities located a grey Chevrolet being followed closely by a tan colored SUV. Officers attempted to stop of the Chevrolet, but the driver refused.  A brief ensued in which the suspect, later identified as Keenon D. Smith-24 yrs old of Ashlawn Street, crashed into a mailbox in the 500 block of Roselawn Street.

Investigators learned that the unidentified victim arrived at his residence near Hellier Street and Main Street and found a vehicle parked in his driveway.

He told authorities he saw a black male running from his shed to the car parked in the driveway.

A confrontation occurred between the victim and Smith where Smith pulled a gun and fired at the victim. The victim then backed out of his driveway to get out of harm's way and the suspect fled. At this point, the victim began chasing the suspect while notifying police until the chase was intercepted and Smith taken into custody.

Smith was charged with Criminal Trespassing, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Aggravated Flight, Criminal Damage to Property and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
