ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A man was arrested Saturday after robbing and beating a woman and then dragging her by her hair and forcing her into his car, according to Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack.

At about 2:20 a.m., Assumption Parish dispatch received a call about a man kicking in the door to a home and beating a woman inside. Deputies responded but found the home empty. Witnesses told them that 38-year-old George Leblanc, of Belle Rose, had attacked the victim by punching her in the face and kicking her after she fell. He then took her wallet and removed over $300 cash before dragging her by her hair outside to a car.

Deputies said Leblanc drove to Donaldsonville, where the victim managed to jump out of the moving car and run to a friend's vehicle, climb in and lock the doors. The friend called 911, and Leblanc was arrested a short time later.

Leblanc was booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center and will be transferred to the Assumption Parish Detention Center. He faces charges of home invasion, simple kidnapping, simple robbery, domestic abuse battery, violation of a protective order, car theft and felony criminal damage to property.  His bond has not yet been set and he was still in custody at the time of publication.
