THIBODAUX, LA (WVUE) - Thibodaux Chief of Police Bryan Zeringue says police in Lafayette, LA have arrested a man accused of shooting a gun during an argument on Christmas Eve.

49-year-old Juan Walker is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Illegal Use of Weapons, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

According to police, Walker fired a gun at the ground near a family member he was arguing with around 12:57 p.m. Thursday, in the 1000 block of Jackson street in Thibodaux.

Moments before he fired the gun, police say Walker claimed he was going to kill the victim. After the shooting, police say Walker then got into his 2001 Chevrolet Suburban and drove off.

According to police, officers went to Walker's address on Canal Boulevard and found his SUV parked there. Police say the officers got a search warrant and went into the house, but it was empty.

Chief Zeringue says the department sent warrants for Walker's arrest to other Law Enforcement Agencies.

Authorities arrested Walker in Lafayette over the weekend. He's now being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on a $65,000 bond.
