Man surrenders in NOE double murder
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A man wanted in connection with a double homicide Monday in New Orleans East surrendered to police Thursday with his attorney.
The NOPD had obtained an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Ahmad R. Rainey, who is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting deaths of Daniel Millon and Vernon Lewis, both 24. The men were shot Monday inside the Hidden Lake Apartments in the 7000 block of Martin Drive.
Rainey's girlfriend, 27-year-old Gilda Woodridge, is accused of helping Rainey "orchestrate" the murder, according to an NOPD news release. Woodridge surrendered to homicide detectives Wednesday afternoon at police headquarters. Police said she is not cooperating with investigators.
Just after 7 p.m., officers were called out to investigate a call of two men shot near a stairwell inside of the apartment complex. When officers arrived, they found Lewis and Millon lying next to motorcycles. Both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and both died at the scene.
Woodridge was booked into Central Lock-up on a charge of principal to first-degree murder.
Once apprehended, Rainey will be booked with two counts of first-degree murder.
