NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A suspect involved in car chase along the interstate is now in police custody.
Police made the arrest after a search involving NOPD canine units.
Around 5:20 a.m., state police were involved in a chase which began at I-10 West at Crowder Boulevard.
The chase ended on Franklin Avenue in Gentilly. The driver of the car fled the vehicle and shots were fired.
At this time, investigators believe no one was struck by gunfire, according to a statement on the incident released by NOPD.
New Orleans police set up a perimeter along Franklin Avenue from Clover Street to Gladiolus Street in Gentilly.
The NOPD is working with the Louisiana State Police at the scene. There are numerous cars and officers on the scene and in the area.
It is unclear why Louisiana State police were chasing the driver.
