JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Causeway Police are investigating a two-car crash on the Causeway Bridge that caused a two-hour closure of the south-bound span. The incident occurred Wednesday around 3 p.m. near mile-marker 17.
A Causeway official says that a truck broke down and as the male driver got out of the vehicle to attempt to fix it, the truck was rear-ended by a car, traveling at highway speed. The driver of the truck suffered severe injuries and was transported to a hospital on the south shore.
The male driver of the car received moderate injuries.
Police continue to investigate the crash. Crews re-opened the south-bound span of the bridge around 5 p.m.
