SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - A former Slidell High School teacher is in police custody for allegedly molesting several students.

Police arrested 34-year-old Raymond Winzy on molestation, child pornography and carnal knowledge of a juveniles charges. All these crimes allegedly occurred while Winzy was a teacher and the head coach of the girls' basketball team at Slidell High School according to Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.

"It's bad enough when someone takes advantage of a child, but it's 10 times worse when it's someone in position of trust, like a teacher. It's disgusting," Smith said.

Police received a complaint from the St. Tammany Parish School Board on March 9 according to Smith. The school board told police that Winzy was engaging in inappropriate behavior with a female student, but Smith said detectives uncovered much more.

"We have identified several students that Winzy was grooming," says Chief Smith.

"Grooming" is a method used by pedophiles to slowly convince their victims to trust them according to Smith.

Police say Winzy would offer female students food or good grades to entice them.

"After the female students would trust him, he would invite the students to his classroom," Smith said. "In some cases, Winzy would start to fondle the young females and ask for nude photographs or explicit videos."

Smith says Winzy also had sex with one student multiple times inside of his classroom at the school.

The former teacher is also accused of having inappropriate conversations with the students through texts and social media.

Once police arrested Winzy, Slidell High sent a letter home to parents notifying them that he was fired because of the allegations and arrest.

Now, it appears there are problems at the school with bullying because of the allegations against Winzy. Smith says the bullying must stop.

"There are some students that know this individual arrestee ... that are taking up for him, and not believing that these stories may be true... so they're bullying other students who may or may not be victims," Smith said.

Meanwhile, the investigation against Winzy continues.

Winzy has worked at other schools in the metro area according to Smith. Detectives believe there may be more victims.
