Orleans Sheriff petitions court for help in funding dispute
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Orleans Parish Sheriff Marlin Gusman hopes a court petition will help determine exactly how much money his office needs to comply with a consent decree.
According to the sheriff's office, the consent decree states a 'funding trial' would take place to determine funding requirements. The office notes a trial began in 2013, but the city and others reached a partial settlement for 2013 alone.
The sheriff and City of New Orleans are in the middle of a dispute over funding for the sheriff's office.
We asked the the city for comment on the sheriff's new petition. The city has not responded.
