Suspected shooter in Raceland incident dies of injuries

RACELAND, LA (WVUE) - Investigators at Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office says the man who allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife in Raceland on Friday, then turned the gun on himself, died Sunday of his injuries.

LPSO says Josh Eschette, 32, was kept on life support over the weekend in order for medical teams to harvest his organs for donation.

Investigators say Eschette is suspected of shooting his estranged wife, 33-year-old Chelsi Pertuit Eschette at a home in the 4100 block of LA 1 in Raceland.

When authorities arrived on the scene Friday, they found both Josh and Chelsi Eschette lying in the driveway. Deputies say Chelsi Eschette was shot multiple times, while Josh Eschette was found suffering from a single gunshot wound to his head.

He survived the initial injury and was airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans in critical condition. Investigators say he died on Sunday and his organs were donated.

Deputies say their investigation continues.
