Unrestrained driver ejected from vehicle in fatal crash

COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police say a 38-year-old man from Westwego died in a car crash Monday night on LA 437 south of LA 40 in Covington.

Investigators say Mohssen Hajighassem Jr. was driving a 2007 Lexus northbound on LA 437 around 11 p.m. when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and traveled off the left side of the road. Troopers say he then over-corrected, which made his vehicle re-enter and travel off the right side roadway. Investigators say his car eventually landed in a ditch and flipped over.

Troopers say Hajighassem did not have a seatbelt on and was ejected from his vehicle after the crash.

Hajighassem was pronounced dead on-scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.

As part of the on-going crash investigation, blood samples were obtained and will be analyzed by the Coroner's Office.
