NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Are you ready to leave the car keys at home and dump the pump?
The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority is set to take part in the 11th Annual National Dump the Pump day this Thursday.
National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association. It is an effort to encourage people nationwide to ride public transportation instead of driving.
APTA is an advocacy organization representing state and municipalities that run transportation networks and companies that build transportation infrastructure.
The group claims that a two-person household that downsizes to one car can save more than $9,000 a year.
The RTA says the agency's recently expanded services make taking public transportation a viable option for many New Orleans residents.
