ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - State and parish authorities cited a dozen businesses for the illegal sale of tobacco and alcohol to under aged citizens in St. Charles Parish.
Sheriff Greg Champagne said deputies and Louisiana Alcohol and Tobacco Control agents targeted 44 businesses on Wednesday. Twelve stores sold beer or tobacco to the under aged participant.
The cashiers that failed to comply with the law and sold alcohol to the under aged participants were arrested by misdemeanor summons for unlawful sales of alcohol to someone under the age of 21. The cashiers that failed to comply with the law and sold tobacco products to the under aged participants were arrested by misdemeanor summons for unlawful sales of tobacco or vape products to someone under the age of 18.
The operation is done occasionally to ensure that under aged members of the public cannot purchase tobacco and alcoholic products, the sheriff said.
