Man wanted for Canal Street armed robbery
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police are asking for the public's help identifying the person wanted for a Canal Street armed robbery.
Police said at approximately 3:15 a.m., on June 18, the victims reported they were walking along Canal Street when the suspect began following them on foot.
When they reached their car, police said the man walked up to the female victim from behind, and pressed a gun, described as a silver semi-automatic, to the back of her head and demanded the victims' cash.
Police said the victims complied and the man fled on foot and got into an older model green or dark blue Honda Civic sedan and drove Canal Street toward North Claiborne Avenue.
Investigators described the man as a very thin, 6 foot tall black male in his early 20s. He has a medium brown complexion and thick black sideburns that connect to a thin "chin-strap" beard along his jawline.
The suspect was wearing a long-sleeve black shirt with white writing and designs on the front, black or blue jeans, and a black baseball cap with a white design that matched the one on his shirt.
Surveillance camera footage from two different cameras depicts the suspect following the couple then running away from the scene. Mobile users can watch the surveillance video by clicking here.
Anyone with information about the identity of this suspect, or where he might be, is asked to call First District detectives at (504) 658-6010 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
