ST. BERNARD PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Sheriff James Pohlmann will take the oath of office for his second four-year term as the head of the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office on Thursday, June 30.

"My goal in this next term is to make sure St. Bernard remains the safest parish in the New Orleans area,'' Sheriff Pohlmann said.

Pohlmann was first elected sheriff in November 2011. He was unopposed during an election last year.

He said his department tracks crime where it happens and that they are applying emerging technology to law enforcement for crime fighting.

"Also, quick response time to calls has been the hallmark of our department and will remain that way,'' the sheriff said.

Pohlmann is a St. Bernard Parish native and has been with the department since 1983.

He will be sworn in during a ceremony at the St. Bernard Parish Courthouse in Chalmette.
