Man killed in Centerville house fire early Thursday

CENTERVILLE, LA. - The Louisiana State Fire Marshal said the body of a man was found after a predawn fire that destroyed a manufactured home in Centerville.

Franklin firefighters arrived at a home in the 100 block of Bonnie Road just before 2 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Investigators identified the victim as Stanley Damron, 67, the owner of the home. He was found after firefighters peeled back a portion of a metal roof to get a better angle to put the fire out.

Damron was found in the kitchen area of the home.

Because of the severe damage to the house, investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of the fire.

Investigators did however learn that Damron was a heavy smoker who "stored and maintained" an unusually large amount of items in his home.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

After processing the scene, Damron's body was released to the St. Mary Parish coroner for a full autopsy.
