NOPD seeks Uptown car thief

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police are asking for help in identifying and finding a suspect wanted for stealing a car Uptown on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when police were called to the 2400 block of Octavia Street.

The victim told police that a he parked his 2009 gray, four-door, Volkswagen across the street from his home about 6 p.m. the previous night.

He said the next morning, he went to his vehicle and discovered a backpack missing from the front passenger seat. He then returned to his residence to find his wife's vehicle, a white 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK was missing.

The Mercedes has a Florida license plate number 507QHX.

The victim then discovered his backpack on the front porch with a note from a neighbor claiming to have found the backpack next to their residence.

The man told police that he believed a key to the Mercedes was inside the backpack at the time it was stolen. Nothing else was missing from the backpack.
