NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The state's expanded medicaid program gets 250,000 more adults covered in less than two months.
The Louisiana Department of Health announced July 15 that 250,000 adults have enrolled in Healthy Louisiana, the state's expanded Medicaid program, since June 1. Coverage started July 1.
"250,000 families can sleep more soundly at night knowing their loved ones have coverage," said Dr. Rebekah Gee, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). "I'm very proud of the work done by the team at LDH. This is a huge opportunity for our state to get healthier, and coverage is an important first step."
Opponents say the expansion will saddle Louisiana with billions in added costs in years to come.
