BOGALUSA, LA (WVUE) - Washington Parish sheriff's detectives arrested a man for allegedly shooting a woman and burning her body just south of Bogalusa.

A citizen had come to the police department Wednesday and reported the homicide in the 61400 block of Shorty Bush Rd. and discovered Charles Joseph Mixon, 41, outside the residence.

Officers said Mixon confessed to shooting the woman and disposing of the body. He led detectives to the site where detectives found a body which had been badly burned, making positive identification impossible.

The motive for the murder has not been clearly defined, according to the sheriff's department.

Louisiana State Police helped investigate the homicide and remained at the scene most of the day.

Detectives continue to interview people who might have information concerning the alleged crime. In addition, they are processing the victim's vehicle, purse and other personal belongings. They are trying to determine what circumstances contributed to the shooting.

The family of the victim has been notified, however an identity will not be released until DNA testing is complete.

Mixon is being held on a charge of second degree murder. No bond has been set.
